2010 SeasonWith 10 races scheduled for this season, we are hoping to be a little more competitive. The new tire and gear rules will help, but it remains to be seen if it will be enough to save us. May 8 - First race of the season was rained out. Good news is that we broke even. May 22 - For this race we mounted 3 new stickers. The car really liked the new shoes, but we were the only ones running the new gear set, so we were still at a disadvantage. We also found that the new tires and faster speeds put more stress on the brakes which overheated. By the middle of the main, the rotors glowed so much that the fans in the stands could read by the orange light. I guess we ignored the brakes last season since our speed was way down on old tires. May 31 - USAC Western States Race. Not real excited about competing in this melee but did not have to make the decision. Our brake problem was caused by a broken rotor and the wheel was galled onto the hub. Only way we could separate the two was to dismantle the wheel halves and use a 25 ton press. Since this was the only race of the season without at least 2 weeks since the last race, there was not enough time to get it back together for the race. June 12 - Another break even day for us. Race cancelled due to rain. I thought we lived in an "arid climate". June 26 - Next Race 2009 SeasonThis season is a time for regrouping. Financial constraints would not let us do any racing, even though we qualified the car for each race just to help SLVRA keep the car count up. We could not afford to buy any new tires and used the same set for the first five races. For the next few races we used donated "take-offs" from some of the better financed teams. That was certainly appreciated but, without those new sticky tires, we could only hope to keep out of everyone's way. This kind of racing really sucks ! ! ! Also the lack of pit crew to help with the car (our crew chief move to Montana) it was a one man show, making it a lot of work and very little fun. 2008 SeasonWell folks, it's race time pretty soon. We have our new schedule; 10 races in all, 8 at RMR, 1 at Magic Valley (Twin Falls) and the last race of the season in Las Vegas. Also, 5 of the races are Western States races bringing in Sprints from all over the western US. Just what we need, more teams with more money than sense. In addition, I read in the April Circle Track magazine that Toyota is sponsoring 2 Western States sprints this season. Guess they had some money left over from NASCAR ! ! ! The good news is that we have picked up the US Government as a sponsor in the form of a $1200 rebate check. April 26 - Well the first race is in the books, not good but not bad. Miserable weather with a temperature in the 50's during the day and low 40's at race time. During the main, which we made by finishing 1st in the B-Main, Jimbo got turned around coming out of turn 2 and spun into the infield. Then the flagman waited until he was 3 laps down before they finally decided to throw the yellow. Don't know why they waited 3 laps ! ! ! (Note: On all other spins during the race, they threw the yellow immediately) He was running good for the remainder of the race, but could not overcome the 3 lap down situation. Still, he managed a 14th place finish. Very discouraging. Not counting any wear and tear on the engine/car and transportation to the track expenses, it cost us $1368 to compete and the payout was $255, leaving a $1133 loss for the night. We can't afford many night like this one. The only encouraging sign is the Toyota engines qualified 13th, 15th and 17th and finished 5th, 20th and 21st. All that money did not get them too much. May 10 - Well, we were snake-bit again. During the main, a leaky brake caliper caused a puff of smoke going into the corners. Jimbo being on the cautious side decided to stay out of everyone's way. This worked well for 23 laps until 3 laps from the end of the race, they decided to black flag him. Hell, if the USAC Pit Stewart (same one that put us down 3 laps in the previous race) thought it was an issue, why didn't he black flag us before we wasted all the fuel ? ? ? Again, an expensive night that put us way down, almost impossible for us to recover this season. For the rest of the season, we will probably race a little and try to keep our expenses under control. Right now we will probably pass on the Western States races since they have a history of eating money. May 26 - Our most successful outing this season. We actually broke even financially, probably because the race was canceled due to rain and we didn't even have to drive to the track.
. August 30 - After the first three race dates, we made the decision to throttle down our participation for the remainder of the season. Against our better judgment, we decided to race in the last Western States race on August 30. Bad decision, we got pounded in the rear by one of the California idiots and spun coming out of turn 2, ending up sitting in the middle of the preferred line sideways. Needless to say, we got tee-boned by the oncoming cars, all of which were local drivers. The #40 California car got by unscathed. There is no justice in the world. September 6 - Jimmy Waters graciously lent us enough parts to run, but we were just happy to ride around the track and stay away from trouble. Glad to see this season end ! ! ! * Western States Race After 8 years of results on the same page, we decided to modernize our layout and place each years results on a separate page. Now you click on the year heading and, viola, you are magically transported to a separate page highlighting that years results. 2007 Season Results2006 Season Results2005 Season Results2004 Season Results2003 Season Results2002 Season Results2001 Season Results2000 Season Results1999 Season Results
